Editorial Guidelines

Editorial Guidelines & Standards

HealthTechCheck is committed to providing trustworthy, accurate, and useful information about health technology products and services. These guidelines describe how we approach our editorial work — including how we research, evaluate, and present information to our readers, and how we handle potential conflicts of interest.

Our Editorial Mission

Our goal is to help consumers make informed decisions about health technology. We aim to provide clear, evidence-informed analysis that prioritizes reader interests above all else.

We cover a broad range of health technology products — including wearables, digital health apps, telehealth platforms, medical devices, and related services — with a focus on real-world usefulness, accuracy, and value.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial decisions are made independently of our business operations. Coverage topics, review conclusions, and editorial recommendations are determined solely by our editorial team and are not influenced by advertising considerations, vendor relationships, or commercial interests.

While HealthTechCheck may pursue commercial relationships with vendors — including advertising, sponsorship, or affiliate arrangements — these relationships do not affect how products or services are evaluated or presented in our editorial content. No advertiser or business partner has the ability to direct, review, or alter editorial coverage as a condition of any commercial arrangement.

For readers: If a product or service featured in our content is connected to a commercial relationship, we will clearly label that content in accordance with applicable disclosure standards. Our editorial assessments always reflect the honest judgment of our team.

How We Research and Evaluate Products

Research-Based Assessment

We apply a rigorous research process to every product we cover. Our evaluations draw on:

  • Peer-reviewed clinical literature and publicly available scientific studies
  • Regulatory status and documentation (e.g., FDA clearance, CE marking)
  • Published specifications, user manuals, and manufacturer-provided information
  • Reported user experiences and aggregated consumer feedback
  • Comparative analysis against similar products in the category

Hands-On Testing

Where possible, our team seeks to evaluate products through direct use. However, we do not represent that every product we cover has been independently tested by our staff. Some evaluations are conducted through research alone, and we will make clear in individual articles what the basis for our assessment is.

Our product coverage will typically indicate whether an evaluation is research-based, testing-based, or a combination of both. We do not draw conclusions beyond what our evidence supports.

Medical and Clinical Review

HealthTechCheck recognizes the importance of clinical expertise in evaluating health technology. We are committed to incorporating qualified medical review into our content processes.

For articles covering specific health conditions, clinical use cases, or products with meaningful medical implications, we aim to have content reviewed by a qualified healthcare professional or subject-matter expert prior to publication. Where such review has been completed, this will be indicated in the article.

A note on our review process: We are actively developing our medical review process. Not all articles will carry a medical reviewer credit, particularly in our earlier stages of operation. The absence of a reviewer credit does not indicate that content is inaccurate, but readers should always consult a qualified healthcare professional for guidance specific to their personal health situation.

Reviewer credentials will be disclosed where a reviewer is credited. We do not list reviewers for articles where substantive clinical review has not been completed.

Accuracy and Corrections

We take accuracy seriously. Our editorial team makes every reasonable effort to verify factual claims before publication, including checking manufacturer specifications against independent sources where available.

When errors are identified — whether by our team or flagged by readers — we correct them promptly and transparently. Significant corrections to published articles will be noted within the article itself, including the nature of the change and the date it was made.

Readers who identify potential inaccuracies are encouraged to contact our editorial team directly.

Conflicts of Interest

Commercial Relationships

HealthTechCheck may receive compensation through advertising, affiliate links, sponsored content, or other commercial arrangements. We are committed to transparent disclosure of these relationships wherever relevant.

  • Sponsored content is always clearly identified as such and is held to the same factual standards as editorial content
  • Affiliate relationships may exist on product links; these do not affect editorial scoring or recommendations
  • Vendors do not receive advance review of editorial content, nor can they require editorial changes as a condition of any commercial relationship

Reviewer and Staff Disclosures

Editorial staff and external contributors are required to disclose any relationships — financial or otherwise — that could create a conflict of interest with respect to products or topics they are covering. Where a conflict exists that cannot be mitigated, that individual will not be assigned to the relevant coverage.

A Note on Health Information

The information published on HealthTechCheck is intended for general informational purposes. It does not constitute medical advice and should not be used as a substitute for the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional.

Health technology products vary significantly in their clinical validation and intended use. Our coverage aims to contextualize this for readers, but individual circumstances differ. Always consult your physician or another qualified provider before making decisions about health-related products or services.

Feedback and Contact

We welcome feedback from readers, healthcare professionals, and the broader health tech community. If you have questions about our editorial process, wish to report a factual error, or have other concerns, please reach out to our editorial team through our contact page.

These guidelines are reviewed and updated periodically as HealthTechCheck evolves. We are committed to maintaining a transparent and honest editorial operation.
